WARNING: this hot cocoa is not for the weak!
I was in the mood for something sweet, rich, and chocolaty so I automatically thought of hot cocoa. I grabbed my unsweetened cocoa, some water, and a can of sweetened condensed milk to thicken it up.
While I was making this I thought, what’s the difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa?? Do you know? I looked it up and according to Mary Lou Heiss’s blog, called An Educated Palate, ”Hot Chocolate that incorporates milk, cream, sugar, and shaved or chipped bits of bittersweet chocolate. The chocolate melts as the milk/cream mixture is heated” … “Hot Cocoa is made with water, a few tablespoons of milk or cream, sugar and cocoa powder”.
Hot Cocoa Recipe:
yields 2
2 cups water
6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
2/3 cups sweetened condensed milk (almost one 14oz can)
- heat the water up to a slow simmer
- add the cocoa and whisk out all the lumps
- While you’re still whisking, slowly add the condensed milk
- Pour your cocoa into cups and ENJOY!
